Meet Selena Stead

It was Selena’s passion for animals that lead her to open Steady Pet Care Solutions. She knew there was a huge need locally for more trusted pet care businesses and wanted to be a part of fulfilling this need.

“I love animals and always have,” says Selena. “There is no greater pleasure in life than gaining the trust of a canine or winning the approval of a feline. You need to be an incredibly patient and loving person to work with animals as a caregiver. Every creature has different needs… they are just as unique as humans are; they all have their own distinct personalities, reactions and thinking processes. I love working with all of the different animals in my care. It brings me great happiness to see how excited my dogs get when they see me. Winning over the grumpiest of felines and helping nervous pets become confident… I love the joy this work brings me.”

The animal enthusiast is honoured to be able to give back to her community and be someone who is able to provide locals with trusted pet care services. Selena is grateful for the many opportunities available in Fort St. John and knows that being in a smaller town provides a special opportunity for her to grow close bonds with her fellow community members.

She spends her free time volunteering when she can and spending time with her own animals, husband and other loved ones. Selena also enjoys shopping at other locally owned businesses such as Beard's Brewing, Jackfish Dundee’s, Spicy Fusion and the NEAT Thrift Store.

“Another great local community resource is On Our Way Home Animal Rescue Society,” says Selena. “They are a no-kill group that goes out of their way to provide stray animals with homes, help local animal owners and give every animal a chance at their fur-ever home. They are amazing! If you are wanting to volunteer or help support a local group, this is the group. OOWH is in constant need of foster homes. Maybe you can be one!”

Selena admits that her local economy isn’t the greatest right now but says she is confident in her decision to start her business. She explains that even with the overall downturn, there is still a big need for what she is offering. “I can see the pet service industry growing and flourishing in no time,” she declares.
