Meet Irene Gut
“Encaustic is basically painting with wax,” explains Irene. Irene moved to Cecil Lake in 1995 from Switzerland and found not many people knew about encaustic. She started a business to teach beginners and introduce more people to encaustic. “I love what I do and I like to share that with others,” said Irene.
Irene is happy to call Cecil Lake home and loves that “people and neighbours know each other and are willing to help out and lend a hand if needed.” Irene enjoys being outdoors and going for walks with her dog . She also loves camping with her family. A very nice place to visit is about 30 km east of Fort St. John near her home in Cecil Lake. “It is the St. Matthias Anglican log church, built as a community project by volunteers,” said Irene, “it is still in use and the perfect setting for a wedding or for picture taking of any kind.”
Irene also enjoys being connected to Fort St. John. “I like that it is not too big and it’s easy to find out what kind of events are taking place in different locations – at the cultural center, the Lido, the pool and so on.”
Creative. Unique. Artistic
Irene’s lessons are an introduction to encaustic art and the tools of an encaustic artist, the iron and stylus. Her students leave inspired, happy and creative. Encaustic is now a more common art form, thanks in part to Irene’s teaching. She enjoys sharing her skills and seeing her clients discover a talent they may not have known the possessed. Her lessons are fun and relaxing.
Irene believes a key to small business success is providing excellent customer service and offering unique, good quality products. The coffee is always on at Irene’s Encaustic and Mixed Media Arts and she has beautiful original art cards, encaustic paintings and mixed media paintings for sale.
Irene is proud of her business. “I started it completely on my own by just sticking to keep doing what I like and by not giving up,” said Irene.
