Fort St. John North Peace Museum
The Fort St. John North Peace Museum offers a variety of educational programs, events and guided tours. Their displays and exhibits are dynamic and informative. “We have a large archives on site too,” explained Heather, “with thousands of photographs and special historical papers.” Heather and the volunteers offer research services to the public. “We also maintain a large gift shop selling books on the area as well as souvenirs, clothing, jewellery and stuffed animals,” said Heather.
Heather is proud of the museum. “I love that it continues to grow and expand both physically, with our buildings and the collection,” said Heather, “as well as in terms of educational programs and events.” The museum is becoming much better known in the community and she feels the society is succeeding in connecting the public to the city’s history.

Meet Heather Sjoblom
Heather is the Manager/Curator of the Fort St. John North Peace Museum. The museum started in 1965 and is dedicated to the collection, preservation, storage and display of items relating to the history of the North Peace River area. The museum functions for both the education and the enjoyment of our present and future generations. The Fort St. John North Peace Museum is run by the non profit North Peace Historical Society and Heather is their sole full-time employee. The society has an active group of volunteers supporting Heather. "In 2021," said Heather proudly, "we had 76 volunteers put in close to 4,380 hours!"
Heather loves the community support for the museum. Her favourite place to go is the Peace River, "because it's a beautiful place just a few minutes drive from town, it's like being in the country and it refreshes and renews you."
