Meet the Fort St. John Senior Citizen's Association Members
The Fort St. John Senior Citizen’s Association is governed by a volunteer board of directors and has been in operation for many decades. The association has over 90 members with 40 members regularly attending weekly events and functions at the centre.
The camaraderie of the group and being part of a mix of people who genuinely look forward to seeing one another is one of the great benefits of joining the Fort St. John Senior Citizen’s Association.
The volunteer board of directors is pleased that they are here for seniors and they have noticed more residents choosing to stay and retire locally. As well, there appears to be an influx of seniors choosing to move to Fort St. John because their children are employed here and their grandchildren are here as well. There are other services for seniors in the community in addition to the active seniors citizen’s association including handyDart transportation services and housing options for seniors.
The Fort St. John Senior Citizen’s Association is well supported by the community from neighbouring businesses offering a helping hand, to an active support network with the municipality. The Fort St. John & District Chamber of Commerce and even the local radio and television stations show their support to the association.
The Fort St. John Senior Citizen’s Association volunteer board of directors is very thankful to the community of Fort St. John for their ongoing support and most importantly, to their wonderful members who contribute so much to every event and function.
Fun. Personal. Entertaining.
The Fort St. John Senior Citizen’s Association runs the Seniors Centre which enables seniors to socialize and have fun. Regular activities take place on Mondays and Thursdays and include a variety of card games, floor curling, carpet bowling, table tennis and pool.
As well, on Mondays and Thursdays, the volunteer membership hosts an affordable and nutritious luncheon. Everyone is always welcome at the Seniors Centre and you don’t have to be a senior to partake in the socialization, games and luncheons.
The volunteer association supports themselves by holding bingo nights twice a month and by renting out their hall for private functions or public events. Their medium-sized rental facility has tables, chairs, a kitchen, a stage, wheelchair accessible washroom, a mic speaker system and ample public parking.
The Fort St. John Senior Citizens’ Association hosts a regular “old fashioned bingo” twice a month that uses the paper bingo sheets. This is a popular event in the community – everyone is welcome to come on down and join in on the fun!
